Phuket Investigator Promises Speedy Action in Probe of Alleged Park Encroachers

Friday, September 19, 2014
PHUKET: Senior former administrators are among 14 people cited in allegations of Phuket parkland encroachment now being investigated by police.

A former governor, a former director of Sirinath National Park, a former Director of the Phuket Land Titles Office and a former senior officer of Thalang District are named in documents delivered to Thalang Police yesterday by the the Director of Sirinath National Park, Kitipat Tarapiban.

Accused with them over plots of 80 rai and eight rai, allegedly covered by a Sor Kor One land title document that is said to have ''flown'' from another part of Phuket, is a non-officer civilian who claims to own the land in dispute.

The 13 officials will be reported to the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission once the probe is completed, said Lieutenant Kittiphum Tintalang, who is conducting the investigation.

''The case is in the public interest because so many senior Government officers are alleged to be involved,'' Lieutenant Kittiphum said. ''For that reason, I will be looking at the matter and acting as speedily as possible.''

Khun Kitipat has applied to be transferred out of Phuket because of threats and intimidation being made as a handful of high-profile cases of alleged encroachment on Phuket public land come under scrutiny.
