Mystery Warning About Phuket Emerges on China Site

Friday, October 11, 2013
PHUKET: A strange message warning people about Phuket is being sent through a Chinese web site to readers. Phuketwan has discovered the message embedded in extracts from articles called up on Google from the Women of China online site. The message reads: You should warn your people to becareful [sic] for holidaying in Phuket! It comes up on articles that are not about Phuket. The site, womanofchina.cn, carries articles about women in China and from around the world, in English.

The site says: Sponsored by All-China Women's Federation, womenofchina.cn offers comprehensive information on the way China's women live today, showcasing their views on the rapidly changing world around them, the challenges they face and the achievements that have been made in the field of women's development.

It's likely that the mysterious warning about Phuket has been planted in the site's HTML coding, possibly without the knowledge of the people who run the site. It appears as though someone may have decided to let people know what they think about Phuket, using the Women of China website.

UPDATE

Among the ''Feedack'' [sic] on the site is the following message:

I bought a great T-shirt in Bangkok today: "I don't need GOOGLE; my wife knows everything".

A lot of these websites are a load of codswallop, especially Trip Adviser which is easily manipulated!

With the recent case of the drugged up illegal taxi driver who kidnapped a chinese woman and sexually attacked her, resulting in the sever punsihment of a 2000 baht fine, this warning seems very much ok.
