PHUKET: A couple from Morocco holidaying on Phuket who paid 2000 baht to have a ladyboy katoey join them in their room were robbed of more than 50,000 baht, police said today.
The couple, who were not named, were staying at a Patong resort. Early on Saturday morning, looking down from their balcony, they spied a ladyboy in the street outside.
Perhaps still enjoying the Patong party atmosphere, the man invited the ladyboy up for a drink, even though it was 6am.
Three hours later, say Patong police, the tourists contacted them to complain that they had been robbed.
According to the Moroccan couple, the three new friends enjoyed each others' company until 9am, when the man went to the toilet and told his wife to pay the ladyboy.
At that point, the couple said, the ladboy slugged the woman with a bottle of Red Label, grabbed the woman's bag and departed.
There was 52,000 baht in the bag, the couple said.
Ladybody Patrawee Pangbudee, 25, was arrested before noon and the couple's money was returned, police said.
