PHUKET: Police raided a laborers' camp on Phuket and made several arrests over the manufacture of the illegal 4x100 drug.
The swoop came on a Burmese camp in Hasip Pee Road, Patong, on Phuket's west coast, about 3pm yesterday.
Police had been told that a store located in the camp sold conventional goods over the counter up front and bottles of the illicit drug out the back.
Most of the sales are to teenagers and children, who use the 4x100 to induce a ''high.''
As a result of the raid, police seized a quantity of ingredients for the 4x100 and arrested three people: two men, Saw, 25, and Nai, 45, and a woman, Soyor, 27.
Officers from Kathu Police Station, which oversees Patong, seized 1620 kratom leaves, 10 bottles of cough syrup, and numerous bottles of the 4x100 mixture.
The 4x100 consists of the illegal kratom plant, cough syrup, coffee and soft drink, boiled then cooled. A small bottle costs 50 baht while a large bottle sells for 100 baht.
