IT HAS taken us years to try a Phuket beach club. Now we understand why Phuket has a growing number of clubs by the sand, and why Catch Beach Club is rated the best. Is there a more perfect place to sit and watch the sun set over the Andaman Sea? We've seen a few Phuket sunsets, but never from quite this close to the waves, with dappled rays bringing the day to a close. Others are enjoying the magic with a stroll along the beach. Phuket has some excellent dining options, but when you add the scenic wonder of a sunset over crashing waves, an early arrival to take in nature's beauty followed by dinner here is difficult to beat. The quality of the food matched the outlook: both were delightful. After dark, in a purple haze, the club takes on an ethereal quality. Twilight, minuses the vampires. The place is popular year-round, probably because monsoon sunsets are moodier and quite different to the ball-of-flame in the water dunkings of high season. If the future of tourism on Phuket is all about giving tourists what they want, then there will be more beach clubs. For now, Catch Beach Club sets an exceptionally high standard.
How to find it: On the shorefront at Surin beach, turn right as you head to the sea.
Parking: It's a stroll from most of the Surin beach resorts and there's a small car park close to the beach. If your car is in the super luxury class, you may even be allowed to park at the club.

We thought about it and decided that it would be stating the obvious given that Catch is a ''headline sponsor'' in a prominent position and has been for some time. Doing the review gave us the opportunity to also write a news story about beach fireworks. Do we need to keep reminding people that our news reports and reviews are unbiased and independent? If the suspicion has formed in your mind, perhaps we do. Readers will draw their own conclusions, whatever we say.
