PHUKET: In the nick of time, Phuket FC did some number crunching tonight, winning 4-1 over a disconsolate Rajpracha.
With a 300,000 baht bonus to be picked up for the win and 30,000 per goal, Phuket's players would have been elated with those numbers as well.
Phuket scored goals at 19 minutes, at 24 minutes and at 42 minutes, such was their keenness to avoid the trapdoor of relegation.
One goal each after the main break left the result in no doubt.
Rajpracha, placed seventeeth out of eighteen on the Division One ladder, will probably suffer the fate that Phuket was so keen tonight to avoid - relegation to Division Two.
Phuket can be placed no worse than fourteenth, where they were before tonight's game, and should even rise a position or two depending on other results.
Phuket had 34 points before tonight with three teams - Bangkok FC, Songhkla and Khon Kaen - all sitting on 36 points.
Positions 14 to 18 will be relegated.
With the last match of the season coming next weekend when Phuket meets JW Rangsit, who are currently sixteenth, Phuket will need another win just to be sure.
It certainly should make a fitting end to a season of ups and downs and ups for Phuket at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City on Saturday.

a great and well deserved win, the turn out of phuket fans was amazing and the away following outnumbered the home crowd. the team played with a passion and togetherness that had rarely been shown before this new coach arrived, a win or a draw next week will see us safe and playing division 1 football next year.
