What Phuketwan says:
The people at the Samkong Post office have put their stamp on Phuket noodles by creating a stylish noodle restaurant as an extension of the original business. The noodles are still cooked at an outdoors stall but customers have the choice of eating on a balcony or indoors where there's a lot to see on the walls. Nostalgia is added to every order. Old photos, toys, radios, alarm clocks and newspaper front pages mean the place is never dull or boring. The ceiling has been decorated with colored chalks and a large wagon wheel has been used to separate the envelopes and packages of the post office from the food and drink and fun. It's a delight and a pleasant addition to an area already acclaimed for its local Phuket eating variety. The stools are beautifully stencilled and every table hides a sewing machine treadle. Business is booming as office types and nurses from nearby Bangkok Hospital Phuket go out to post a letter and come back looking contentedly satisfied. For the price of a few stamps, you'll be licking your lips.

How to find it: Look for the road alongside Bangkok Hospital Phuket, and there it is, on the corner.

Parking: Mostly for motorcycles but there are a few car parking spaces in the road. Those who don't mind a walk of a few metres will park in the car park at Bangkok Hospital Phuket and jump the fence.

Phuketwan reviewers pay for their own meals. If we don't, we tell you. The Samkong Post Office is a candidate for Phuketwan's Phuket Restaurant of the Year 2012.
