Police at the Baramee Road, Patong, house wrecked by raiders this week

Phuket Police Warn of Spate of Raids on Houses

Thursday, October 21, 2010
PHUKET police are warning residents to check the security of their properties after several raids on homes, including one haul of jewellery and appliances worth more than 600,00 baht.

On October 18, Prapom Sinrak left her home about 8.10pm at California Villa, south of Phuket City in Chalong, and returned just 40 minutes later to find the interior of the house had been wrecked and 20,000 baht in cash taken.

On October 19, Nongyao Cirillo, 30, and her expat husband returned to their home in Baramee Road in Patong after six months away to find the interior smashed, with two large-screen television sets taken, along with a CD player and other valuables.

Police suggested the couple book into a hotel while forensic police scoured the place from top to bottom for fingerprints.

On October 19 police were also called to Dowroong Villa in southern Phuket City where Sommal Maneekerd, 43, returned around midnight to find jewellery had been taken and the house disturbed.

She told police that pearl and diamond necklaces worth 600,000 baht, chanote land title papers, cash and 1500 Norwegian kroner were among the items stolen.

Police believe as many as five people may be involved in one of the gangs.

A word about the forensic police. They dusted our house for fingerprints after a burglary but failed to take those of myself and my wife for elimination purposes.

Photographs were taken of just about everything in the house that had nothing to do with the burglary, and they spent a couple of hours drinking my beer and smoking my cigarettes.

Needless to say we became just another unsolved crime statistic.
