A spokesman for Vachira Hospital said today that while there were always two attendants in the x-ray department at the hospital, one attendant was alone with this patient. Police investigations are continuing.


A YOUNG woman has gone to police with a claim that she was sexually assaulted at a Phuket public hospital.

The accusation was made at Phuket City Police Station about 3pm yesterday. It concerned an attendant in the x-ray unit at Vachira Hospital, nearby in Phuket City.

The woman went to the hospital in Yaowarat Road about 12.10am, complaining of stomach cramps and pains after taking too many paracetamol painkillers. Doctors treated her and suggested an x-ray as a precaution.

The young woman said she was groggy at the time. She was wearing a hospital gown over her jeans and underwear, she said.

While the x-ray procedure was taking place, a male attendant removed her bra and jeans. She said she had told him the x-ray was on her stomach only, and did not require removal of her clothing.

The man continued to remove her clothing and assaulted her, the young woman told police. She told officers that the man violated her with a finger.
