The Rayaburi Resort (Racha Yai) has been accused of encroaching on a public beach and having no water processing to dispose of waste from about 90 units.
The Rayaburi is situated on Ao Siam Bay on Racha island, a meeting heard last week. Dr Sommai suggested that the media make note of the fact that the resort appears to be ignoring environmental regulations.
A walled terrace has been established by encroaching on the beach and the sand used to build up the terrace has been taken from other parts of the beach, the meeting at Rawai Council offices heard.
Beach corals have already been destroyed.
Dr Sommai told a representative from Phuket's Marine 5 Office that she wanted Khun Phuripat at the next meeting to explain what action he had taken.
The resort continues to operate without a proper waste water treatment system and efforts were being made to make access to the beach totally private, the meeting heard.
Come to Thailand and swim in a beach where faeces and urine are entering just a few meters away sounds like the North side of Kata beach. Greed again comes to mind. Perhaps Phuket should be renamed GREED. Once again - another story to show how little some care about tourists health and safety, only money.
