The beach terrace on Racha where Rayaburi encroaches

Phuket Marine 5 Chief Ordered to Report on Outlaw Racha Resort

Monday, July 29, 2013
PHUKET: The Chief of Phuket's Marine 5, Phuripat Theerakulpisut, has been ordered by Vice Governor Dr Sommai Preechasin to attend a meeting to explain what action has been taken against an outlaw resort.

The Rayaburi Resort (Racha Yai) has been accused of encroaching on a public beach and having no water processing to dispose of waste from about 90 units.

The Rayaburi is situated on Ao Siam Bay on Racha island, a meeting heard last week. Dr Sommai suggested that the media make note of the fact that the resort appears to be ignoring environmental regulations.

A walled terrace has been established by encroaching on the beach and the sand used to build up the terrace has been taken from other parts of the beach, the meeting at Rawai Council offices heard.

Beach corals have already been destroyed.

Dr Sommai told a representative from Phuket's Marine 5 Office that she wanted Khun Phuripat at the next meeting to explain what action he had taken.

The resort continues to operate without a proper waste water treatment system and efforts were being made to make access to the beach totally private, the meeting heard.

Come to Thailand and swim in a beach where faeces and urine are entering just a few meters away sounds like the North side of Kata beach. Greed again comes to mind. Perhaps Phuket should be renamed GREED. Once again - another story to show how little some care about tourists health and safety, only money.

I so hope the DSI pay the Marine Dept a visit. Jet skis, unsafe tour boats, now this. Bring plenty of writing material.

"@ Dr Sommai suggested that the media make note of the fact that the resort appears to be ignoring environmental reguations."

What difference, if any would it make if the media took note?
If they are ignoring any regulations at all , [and having the waste from 90 units not being disposed of appropriately fits the bill] then surely the powers that be should close it down immediately until all is checked out and found to be in order/or not!!]Then prosecutions should follow at least and permanent closure at worst.
How easy is that.[without the tea money talking that is]

My understanding is that the Phuket administration has no control over Marine Office 5, hence the appeal .to the media to add pressure.

DSI should take a long and hard look.

Everyone knows the North side of one of the largest tourist beaches, Kata stinks when the water flows out but no one has done anything for years.

I don't know either but this from the story suggests that they do have power:

"has been ordered by Vice Governor Dr Sommai Preechasin to attend a meeting to explain what action has been taken against an outlaw resort."

OK, so if they can do nothing themselves, surely they just call the appropriate department and inform them and have them take action..always a lot of shifting the blame and responsibilities it appears...

Our stories don't ''suggest'' anything. Readers draw inferences and make assumptions based on the facts.

Jeez man, get down from your high horse..you are so f----- defensive all the time!!
You apparently miss understood what i said.

I was merely pointing out exactly what was said . ie "ordered to attend a meeting to explain"
IMO that inference alone says as i posted."that they do indeed have some control."
Why on earth do you continue to treat your readers with such contempt?

We do no such thing, Mal.
We never have, and we never will. Readers draw inferences and make assumptions based on the facts.

So this constitutes "a fact"?

Perhaps you should read the paragraph again, Evilbaz, to discern the difference between an ''understanding'' and a ''fact.'' if you want God-like editors who never respond to readers' questions, there are plenty of choices.
