The king cobra being separated from the python on Phuket today

Phuket King Cobra Versus Phuket Python in Backyard Snake Show

Tuesday, July 30, 2013
PHUKET: When a king cobra and a python come to grips with each other, which snake will win? The question was being asked on Phuket today.

Lawyer Vijit Chuankid, 35, probably has a good idea of the answer after witnessing an unequal battle in his backyard in Karon, on Phuket's west coast.

His attention was drawn to the cobra - a giant weighing perhaps six or seven kilos and more than two metres long - by Burmese workers.

The cobra appeared to be about to consume a baby python.

Khun Vijit called the local Phuket snake show for help about 9.30am. The workers quickly captured both the cobra and the baby python, alive.

Who would have won the life and death struggle? Well, the cobra certainly seemed likely to win, given the difference in size.

But there are plenty of pythons on Phuket that grow as big as the cobra.

An answer to the question may have to wait for a day when the Phuket snakes are more evenly matched.

Seeing that King Cobra's main diet is other snakes, I'd bet on the King Cobra.
It's Latin name is Ophiophagus Hannah. The word Ophiophagus in Greek means "snake-eater".
