PHUKET: A man aged 81 is believed to have stumbled into a pond and drowned today in central Old Phuket Town.
The family of Pood Chompuwun told Kusoldharm Foundation paramedics that the father and grandfather was in the habit of rising early. He was not missed until after daybreak.
It's not known whether he slipped and fell in darkness at the pond near his home in Bang Niaew. The family said Khun Pood suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.
Foundation workers who fetched his body about 8am believed he could have been dead for up to three hours.
He could not swim, his family said.
Statistics relating to drowningw were once updated each month on Phuket but no updates or annual totals have been released since April, 2012.
