Tourist Police Mobile Unit Coming to Phuket

Tourist Police Mobile Unit Coming to Phuket

Thursday, September 12, 2013
PHUKET: Tourist Police will be launching a mobile unit on Phuket this weekend. Others are likely to be spotted in Hua Hin, Ayuthaya and Pattaya.

''The Tourist Police Mobile Car is a tool to help Tourist Police understand their role in public relations and recognising their responsibilities in taking care of both Thai and foreign tourists,'' says Tourist Police Commander Major General Roy Inkapairoj.

The vehicle is not quite a Batmobile but it does have some hot stuff inside.

There's a counter for two police officers, as well as leaflets and equipment to help tourists search for relevant information, a 60-inch LCD TV, sound system, digital devices (iPads) and free WIFI internet access.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports also helped to launch the 'Thailand Tourist Police Road Show 2013' project with emphasis on SMART, SMILE, SERVE, SAFE.

There is way to much white space for advertising and stickers left. Fill it up. Maybe a bill board on it's roof, some speakers and serious base-beat pumping out too?

I have been told that Tourist Police do not have the power of arrest, so what is the purpose of this, merely cosmetic to make tourists believe they are being looked over by Police but in reality they have little power. The bus should be manned by at least one Thai Policemen and one female Tourist or Thai Police and of course they both need to speak English.

Editor Comment:

So they can arrest tourists? How odd. There are also an extremely small number of female police, FF, whatever their uniform.

A 1.50 m Flat TV?
Is that in the back, or inside?
I can't believe it! There is the focus on the important things.

Tourist police can sure arrest people.
Only they have to bring them to a police station who takes over the case
