PHUKET: Stones from a cliff face in Phuket City tumbled onto the bypass road today, causing alarm among officials who are on alert for major landslips.
The rock slide came about 10am, threatening to topple a power pole and forcing northbound traffic into one lane.
. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation set up a watch on the area. Traffic was flowing normally, with one lane cordoned off.
A forecast of rain and high waves with predictions of floods has authorities on alert along the Andaman coast and especially on Phuket.
Thigh-high flooding has made getting around difficult in Patong, especially at the intersection closest to the Patong Hospital and the Kathu Police Station.

Typical public works project here. That road (going toward the boat lagoon) was originally designed to be much nearer the hill. They were delayed and ran out of money and the road was moved to its present location.
It was squeezed in with little hard shoulder room and the rock that they were at one time blasting away to level both sides of the original design wasn't properly remediated.
Surprised it didn't come down earlier.
