The car that almost went to sea in Patong's flood yesterday

Phuket Weather Warning: Patong Faces More Flooding, Possible Landslips

Tuesday, August 26, 2014
PHUKET: Patong's agony of floods and more floods may not be over yet with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation warning of heavy monsoon rains from today through to Friday.

Landslips and high waves are also forecast, with the warning applying to Phuket, Ranong, Krabi, Trang, Phang Nga, Chumpon and Surat Thani.

Small boats are advised not to put to sea until conditions improve.

Patong, the main hub for tourists on Phuket's west coast, has suffered serial flooding with the local police station and the road outside the hospital knee deep or at times waist deep.

The mayor attributes the problem to years of neglect of Patong's need for canals to be kept free of construction.

However, development has been permitted in places where water courses have been diverted or replaced with less effective pipes.

The result is that Patong currently has a reputation for poor administration and needless flooding. It's likely to take years to effectively end both.

Patong went under water for the third time in a fortnight yesterday and if the forecasts prove correct, more wild and wet fun can be expected.

I do not understand why until now there are no Taxi-jetskies in Patong.
Sea to wild/dangerous now for a jetsky ride, so service as water taxi and make money in Patong town! ( laugh)
