Foreigners are accepted if you follow the routine of living like a Thai, not as an expat. Learning Thai is a great asset to then help you understand Thailand, it's people, and it's many customs. I have encountered many expats that cannot even mutter a few words in Thai having spent years in the country, which is both insulting, and ignorant. Hanging around expat bars on a daily basis will also prevent you from experiencing the Thai way. Nor is living exactly in the same fashion as if your in your home country. Those that want cizienship will have to demonstrate that they are worthy enough to become Thai. In Europe, we seem to dish out passports like hot dinners, but not in Thailand, you have to earn it. Learn the language, make Thai friends, do some charity work, be an asset, and take the time to make the effort ! Then maybe you will stand a chance of acceptance.
