PHUKET: A burly Russian was arrested in swim trunks yesterday after complaints about a campaign of fear waged in restaurants and stores on Phuket's west coast.
The man allegedly did not pay for food and behaved strangely in restaurants, berating other diners.
He appeared sometimes to be drunk and had become the subject of anxiety around the Kata-Karon district in the past few days, police said.
The matter came to the attention of police when the man vandalised the Supercheap convenience store in Kata.
Later, while being questioned at Karon Police Station, the man physically assaulted a senior police officer and members of the Supercheap staff.
He was subdued with the help of several police and taken to Phuket Vachira Hospital in Phuket City, where he is undergoing a psychiatric examination.
