Phuket Police Already Have Patong Tiger Disco Blaze Report, Says Investigator

Phuket Police Already Have Patong Tiger Disco Blaze Report, Says Investigator

Wednesday, September 19, 2012
PHUKET: The families of the British and French victims killed in Phuket's Tiger Discotheque blaze are anxious to know what caused their deaths, sources said today.

Forensic investigators promised to report findings within 30 days. The clock is still ticking and there has been no announcement since the August 17 disaster in Patong.

The Superintendent of Kathu Police Station, Colonel Jirapat Pollchanaphan, who oversees Patong, is believed to have been sent a copy of the 10-page report.

Wasawat Kitsiriteeraphak, of the Building Safety Inspectors and Officers Association, is one of the team who investigated the discotheque site after the blaze.

He told Phuketwan today that he believed a copy of the 10-page report had been sent to Patong police.

A Patong police spokesperson said today he expected a media conference to be held ''sometime this week.''

It was 3.55am on August 17, almost two hours after legal closing time, when the blaze was seen by patrons who ran for their lives.

Four people were trapped and asphyxiated on a balcony surrounding the upstairs dance floor.

Although the cause of the blaze has yet to be established, it has been widely speculated that the blaze was fed by flammable foam insulation around the balcony area.

The families of two Thai women killed in the blaze have each accepted compensation of one million baht from the Tiger Group, which operated the disco but did not own the property.

The families of the British and French victims - Michael Tzouvanni, 24, and Emmanuel Becard, 30 - are likely to make the point that European insurance evaluators place a much higher value on human lives.

The owner of the Tiger Group, Piya Isaramalai, was among those who jumped to safety as the blaze spread.

Eleven people were injured, but only two were admitted to hospital. The Tiger Group covered all costs.

It's believed the group paid for the the most seriously burned patron, Benjamin Tallanotte, 30, to be flown home to France for further treatment.

I see that bars are again remaining open after 2am just in case of rain showers.
