PHUKET: A couple of friends travelled to Phuket by bus overnight but one friend could not wake the other when the pair arrived on the island early today.
The two men, coming from the annual Chak Phra Festival in Songkhla, caught the 48-seat bus that terminated on Phuket about 4.30am.
Instead of alighting together, one of the men had difficulty waking his friend up at journey's end and called for help.
Police and Kusoldharm Foundation paramedics were called at 4.30am and declared the man dead.
He was named as Prasan Piyawong, 66, originally from Samut Prakan province, who lived and worked on Phuket.
His friend told police that Khun Prasan had a coughing fit as the bus came through Phuket's Thalang district but he thought his friend had gone back to sleep.
He did not realise there was a serious problem until the bus arrived at the Phuket terminal and he could not awaken Khun Prasan.
The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.
