Russian Alexander Pushkarer, 22, faces likely deportation soon

Phuket Immigration Officers Arrest Russian Working in Patong as Salesman

Wednesday, July 17, 2013
PHUKET: Immigration officers from the recently reopened Patong branch arrested a Russian man tonight and accused him of selling souvenirs illegally.

Alexander Pushkarer, 22, was nabbed about 7pm after officers kept an eye on a store in Patong's beach road and saw him working as a salesman.

The store sold spa lotions, shampoo and body lotions, clothes and caps and other souvenirs, officers said.

Mr Pushkarer's visa ran from April 23 to July 22 but he had no work permit, officers said, and was selling copy goods.

He was taken to Kathu Police Station, which oversees Patong, where he is being held pending a court appearance and probable deportation.

Someone told me for minor offences like this you can come straight back to Thailand? Is this correct?

So this bloke was arrested for making an "honest" bob, but they can't do anything about the Russian hookers in Soi Bangla?
This country is just mad!

Jimbo, the russian 'hookers', how you call them, are actresses. That's what their wp's are saying. And their visas are valid, methinks. So don't confuse this with all the illegals, not only russians, not having appropriate visas. And or/and wp's! And their touting on the road, for their 'sexy show', is part of the acting, jingjing

Well, the hookers are 'dancers' :-) Prostitution is illegal! But I wonder if all the Nepali / Indian tailor touts have a WP ? Or do they just pay better tea money ?

This is just selective targeting of foreigners. For example a well known night club in Phuket has foreign people selling tickets throughout Jungceylon everyday - no work permit and tourist visas only - known for a fact - the reason they dont get bothered is because the right people are looked after. The same applies to the girls on Soi Bangla as @jimbo referred too.

If immigration really want to get praise for doing their jobs stop being so selective and deal with the issues in front of their eyes.

yes..and as usual..this latest selective targeting is Phukets way of showing the tourist world that they are proactive in dealing with "the bad things" going on here...It's a sideshow to sidetrack people from the reality
