The Phuket tourist reclaims her valuable stolen Nikon camera

Phuket Camera Snatchers Caught, to Tourist's Delight

Wednesday, September 18, 2013
PHUKET: Police should be commended for arresting within 48 hours two thieves who snatched a camera belonging to a Brazilian tourist, Phuket Police Commander Major General Chote Chawanwiwat said today.

Rosemary Maria Cabrera had an expensive red Nikon camera snatched on Sunday by two young men on a motorcycle.

Last night at 7pm, police from Phuket City and Karon hauled in Kanin Kongchana, 22, and a 15-year-old Burmese who as a minor cannot be identified.

Commander Chote said the red and black Yamaha Fino used in the snatch in Soi Ket Kwan in Karon had provided one clue and security camera footage also helped.

''I asked police to solve this one as fast as possible because we don't want these kinds of incidents affecting Phuket tourism,'' he said.

The tourist was delighted to get her camera back so speedily, he said.

Modest about their achievements, officers at Karon Police Station were reluctant today to provide further details about the case.

affecting tourism? How about affectng an innocent person who was on her holiday. Was it a mispeak or do Thai's only care about themselves? BTW that's a rhetorical question

It was a simple theft and the tourist has her camera. No need, really, for too much much concern. It would be a mistake to draw conclusions about a whole country based on one simple theft, thomas.

Simple thefts or severe crimes. I've read the same thing. Do you the police spoks person in Sydney would say 'we need to catch this person because it may hurt tourism". I'll dismiss it as not having proper command of the english language if that maks you feel better.

Molehills, mountains . . . it's a stretch to turn a single quote into a national indictment, no matter how strong your desire for mass denigration.

Hyperbole! My comment was directed towards the the phuket police, not the entire country.

Well, that's good to hear. It would be a mistake to read too much into the Commander's response over a stolen camera.
