Where the bus came to rest in Patong after crashing last night

Phuket Bus Crashes Down Hill Into Wall Outside Patong House

Monday, September 30, 2013
PHUKET: A tour bus with only the driver on board sped out of control down Patong Hill last night before crashing into a wall around a house.

Nobody was injured, according to Patong police. The bus, owned by the Dow Duang Mai company, had travelled from Phuket City to Patong to pick up passengers.

A neighbor told Phuketwan: ''This is actually the fourth time a big vehicle hit this house. First time was by a truck in 2007.

''A new armored wall has now been set up in front of the house and the cement was not even dry when the new accident happened - but this new wall passed the test.

''The bus stopped when it hit the wall.''

Driver Pornpot Jarklang, 38, told police that he was descending the hill towards Patong when the brakes failed.

Mechanical checks on the bus were being carried out today.

Buses frequently have problems climbing the hill or roll down into houses in the Nanai Road area of Patong, near Patong Temple.

The Phuket Land Transport Department has announced a campaign to encourage bus owners to make sure buses are not obsolete and to ensure they are well maintained.

Isn't this a legal requirement for the transportation of paying members of the public?

Another bus brake failure on this hill
more excuses no action.

What I find unbelievable is that the local administration has not provided even a single brake testing dyno for heavy vehicles on Phuket.

Considering the huge amount of tourist buses and the frequent brake failures blamed as the cause of the accident it is absolutely irresponsible that the Land Transport Office does not even have the technical equipment to conduct such tests.

Is this how Phuket values the safety of the very people that feed it ?
