PHUKET: A Phuket motorcycle taxi rider struck another rider twice with an axe today then fled across Patong. Police quickly arrested the man and he was being held at Kathu Police Station.
''We understand one man was teasing the other man,'' an officer said. About 9.50am, the motorcycle rider, upset with the teasing, struck his tormentor twice on the back of the head.
He then took off on a motorcycle with the axe, police said. Officers arrested him in beach road soon after.
Officers named Sarot Chaisit, 34, as the arrested man and Sompong Pookanka, 41, as his victim.
The two men had been sitting at their rank in Soi Kepsup, which runs off Rat-U-Tit 200 Pi Road, south of Soi Bangla.
Kusoldharm Foundation paramedics took Khun Sompong to Patong Hospital and he was later transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City, on the other side of the island.
A hospital spokesperson declined to reveal his condition this afternoon.
