Way to go:signage to the Phuket airport bus will increase with services

Airport Buses for Kamala, Karon, Rawai

Wednesday, September 19, 2012
PHUKET: The campaign to start three new bus routes from Phuket international Airport is going ahead, a meeting of honorary consuls heard this week.

The buses on the three services would run from Phuket airport and terminate in Kamala, Kata-Karon and Rawai, Phuket Land Transport chief Terayoot Prasertphol told the gathering with administrators at Phuket Provincial Hall in Phuket City.

''The cost will be between 80 baht and 120 baht, depending on the distance travelled,'' he said.

''The aim will be to have between four and six buses operating on each of the routes.''

Khun Terayoot said that the new routes would be in addition to the existing bus service that runs between Phuket City and Phuket airport each hour.

Tenders for the services will be invited from the first week in October and close after 45 days, he said.

The routes could be in action early in the new year, he said.

The present Phuket airport to Phuket City bus service costs 80 baht and terminates at the old bus station.

Anyone brave enough to give tenders? Will there be taxi blockades if the buses start to run?
I believe when I see....

I also believe it when I see it, but I do have the feeling that the climate for these enterprises is better than it used to be, and chances of success and support from police or even army are higher than ever.

Fantastic news if this becomes reality.

Though I do hope that whoever started this awesome project asked the taxi drivers for their permission. They will not be happy about the new routes

Fritz- ever consider that the Kata-Karon bus may go through Patong instead of just trying to find fault as usual? My glass is half full, not half empty.

I think the local Government have left the "Patong turf" to the mafia to avoid a taxi-bus-passenger war.

I would expect for the moment, yes, but if and when the Kata-Karon-Rawai airport bus becomes a success there will be no stopping it and it will extend to Patong. That is my firm belief.

Please ! Let it be so ! Even though my flights always seem to get in after the bus stopped running (cheaper flights I guess). Has anyone taken on the tenders offered a few months ago ? I don't think so. I can only speculate why.
