Patong Gunfight: Police Warn of Killers On The Run

Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Phuketwan UPDATE

Police investigating the deadly Patong shooutout have the Honda CVR used in the escape. They say tight security on the island means the killers cannot have left the island by road or air.

Original Report

THE KILLERS who shot four men in a gun battle in Patong this afternoon are still on the loose, being hunted by police, and described as dangerous.

The gun battle began with a simple push, police told Phuketwan tonight, when two groups of men met near the beach road to discuss a property dispute about 1.50pm.

They talked, one man pushed another in the chest, and all hell broke loose.

Tourists scattered in terror and people nearby lost count of the number of shots they heard in the gun battle that followed.

A red Honda CVR appeared on the scene instantly and the killers escaped. Police are sure that some of them were wounded in the exchange of fire.

Police believe the men are still on the island, in hiding, and describe them as extremely dangerous and not to be approached.

Killed was Daruwat Burintarakob, 24, nephew of a woman who was murdered last year in what police say is a bitter dispute about the Jintana Plaza property.

Khun Daruwat died in hospital from a single shot to the heart.

Wounded in the shootout were the three men who were protecting Khun Daruwat: former Police Captain Sunan Potsawatpairoj, 62, who was shot twice in the left leg, Ieron Yeebu, 35, who suffered a bullet wound to his chin, and Aod Aekkaew, 29, with a calf wound from a bullet that went into his right leg and out the other side.
