PHUKET: Phuketwan joined the large crowd at the Royal Thai Navy base north of Phuket at Tablamu, where the service marked Children's Day with skydiving, displays of weaponry and trips out on boats. Reporter Chutima Sidasathian joined a senior navy officer on the beach as the Navy did what it does best: communicates with people. The facility for protecting the Andaman Sea's turtles is close to where yesterday's event took place. A little further north in Khao Lak, Phuketwan delivered toys to a group of Rohingya children being detained at a family shelter.

I always thought the intense love thais have for weapons sat awkwardly with people here supposedly being "peace loving buddhists". This includes my wife and her family and also good friends of mine.
