FOR Khun Lookmee, a stunning Thai supermodel, the end of Phuket Fashion Week tonight will bring a tinge of sadness.
She likes Phuket and she loves diving, so a week working on the island is no great hardship.
Wherever she steps out in Thailand, Russamee Tongsiripaisiri is recognised for her long, lean good looks, even walking back to her resort in Patong after the nightly shows at Jungceylon.
She and Odet, a good friend and the other supermodel star of the week, have largely delighted audiences, who come for the beauty of the models as well as the clothes.
Scores of models, female and male, have supported the two stars in showings all week, with Phuket emerging as a potential fashion centre.
While she often goes diving, this week Khun Lookmee has mostly beein immersed in the spa at the resort where she is staying, the Wimarn Spa at Duangjitt Resort.
''It's perfect,'' she said. ''The villas are private and you have a lot of freedom.''
Now in her 30s, Khun Lookmee has had a decade at the top of the fashion industry. She has seen a lot of places.
''A resort near the beach in Patong is about as good as it gets,'' she says. ''There is diving and watersports during the day, plenty of entertainment at night, and good food all over.
''I like some of the pubs in Phuket City, too. The quality of the nightspots is consistently high.''
Khun Lookmee has turned modelling into a long-term career, establishing a school WeareModel for young hopeful in Bangkok. She has about 1000 students there.
Her tip for staying healthy and good looking? ''Eat normally,'' she said, ''especially fruit. And make sure you exercise, too.''
Duangjitt covers 80 rai at the southern end of Patong, with three swimming pools and more than 500 rooms of different kinds.
