PHUKET: About 40 would-be players tried out for Phuket FC yesterday at the TX Park in Phuket City.*
And tomorrow, the best players that Phuket FC can muster will be putting the club's Division One future to the test in a do-or-die game in Phuket City.
The players testing themselves for Phuket FC will probably know about 8.30pm tomorrow whether they are candidates for a Division One or a Division Two side next season.
By then, all of Phuket's fans will also have a better idea of the destiny of their beloved Phuket.
In the rare Wednesday evening clash, Phuket, now lying in fifteenth spot - the trap-door relegation zone of Division One - take on thirteenth-placed Khon Kaen FC.
If Phuket loses, its chances of staying in Division One just about vanish this season.
Expect an excited crowd at Surakul Stadium, Phuket's Phuket City home ground, from 6.30pm as Phuket puts its future on the line.
Crunch time continues quickly next Saturday, when Phuket take on Bangkok United, lying in third place, in Bangkok.
Bangkok will be hot, needing a win over Phuket in their quest for promotion to Premier League.
The whole season wraps up over the following two weekends, with Phuket scheduled to play seventeenth placed Rajpracha FC away then sixteenth placed JW Rangsit.
Draws will not be good enough. Phuket will need every ounce of talent and support to avoid the ignominy of the trapdoor, despite its better form and strong support in recent weeks.
*Originally reported in error as the FIFA tsunami pitch in eastern Phuket.
