PHUKET: A Cambodian who kicked sand at a tourist on a beach near Pattaya in a video that went viral has been arrested and faces three years jail and deportation.

The 25-year-old man, known only as Ping, was arrested today by police at Koh Lan, a popular day trip destination off Pattaya.

He is being accused of intimidation and will almost certainly be deported once he has served a jail term, which could be as much as three years.

In the video, the Ping is seen abusing and kicking sand at a woman sitting on a towel on a beach, telling her she must use a sunbed instead. As the woman, a Westerner or from Russia, stands up and objects to his treatment, He pushes her and abuse her more.

In the end, the woman walked away. It's not known who recorded the damning video, which was apparently captured in October but only in the past few days posted on YouTube.

The fuss over the beach staffer's behavior comes with public beaches being cleared of commercial activities all over Thailand.

Judging by the non-involvement of onlookers one can assume that chivalry is dead.

I posted this video to my Thai friends on facebook telling them if someone tried this on an Australian beach he would lose his teeth. Everyone is in agreement this is not acceptable.

Many Thais are not beach goers and these things really open their eyes to what us poor farangs have to put up with on a daily basis.

Certain people at Surin beach were not much better than this guy.

Where is Joe Weider ( 1920- 2013 ) when we need him? As a fellow Canadian- I know Joe would not allow anyone to be kicking sand in people's faces. He'd pump that tourist's biceps up to about 16 inches in weeks- just like on the back of those old comic books- and the Cambodian would have the tables turned real quick!

Signed,

ZERO tolerance for bullies

I was a frequent beach goer on Phuket ( mainly Kata ) and I never could witness any kind of this behavior, which can't be tolerated and needs to be punished. However, also I wonder if same measurements would be applied, if Ping would not be a foreigner.

I am happy that there are no loungers and umbrellas any more. This type of behavior is unacceptable, Especially to a female. That guy is a PUNK. To bad she didn't bring back some friends to kick his butt for touching her.

As far as you all write He's Cambodian/ Scapegoat bla bla bla. KICK Him the hell out of the country. I wish we could kick those types out of the country I live in.

Hats off to Thailands detectives to find him almost 1 year later, if I read the article correctly. Filmed in October.

Editor Comment:

Filmed in October but posted just a few days ago. Beach staff on Lan island are probably not that difficult to find, John.
