PHUKET: A Cambodian who kicked sand at a tourist on a beach near Pattaya in a video that went viral has been arrested and faces three years jail and deportation.
The 25-year-old man, known only as Ping, was arrested today by police at Koh Lan, a popular day trip destination off Pattaya.
He is being accused of intimidation and will almost certainly be deported once he has served a jail term, which could be as much as three years.
In the video, the Ping is seen abusing and kicking sand at a woman sitting on a towel on a beach, telling her she must use a sunbed instead. As the woman, a Westerner or from Russia, stands up and objects to his treatment, He pushes her and abuse her more.
In the end, the woman walked away. It's not known who recorded the damning video, which was apparently captured in October but only in the past few days posted on YouTube.
The fuss over the beach staffer's behavior comes with public beaches being cleared of commercial activities all over Thailand.
