Tight-lipped police with accused killer Lieutenant Montree Keawrat

Road Rage Murder Policeman Kills Pal, Wife, Kids

Friday, March 26, 2010
POLICE have charged a fellow officer with the assassination-massacre of a colleague, his wife and their children, aged four and five.

The charged officer, Police Lieutenant Montree Keawrat, has confessed to killing the family yesterday on a lonely road near Bangkok as well as to the murder of a rich Thai woman in July 2009.

On that occasion, Lieutenant Montree shot the woman in the head on the spot, police have now been told, because she cut him off in her car in traffic in a street near Bangkok.

The fit of road rage was followed by yesterday's extraordinary massacre of colleague Lieutenant Rachan Phanwong, 37, his wife and their two children.

A third child, a daughter aged six, was also shot and is now recovering in hospital.

Lieutenant Montree absconded while on bail for the 2009 killing.

After being apprehended today, he told police that he had borrowed a million baht from Lieutenant Rachan to ''fix'' the murder case.

They argued yesterday and Lieutenant Montree today admitted killing the family.

When asked why he had killed the children, he did not answer.

He said he had been talking to his friend on the telephone and organised to meet early yesterday in person to prevent being traced by investigating police.

Lieutenant Montree said he argued with his friend about the money, shot him in the head with an illegal handgun, then killed his wife next after she ran, pleading to be allowed to live. She made it as far as 40 metres.

Then Lieutenant Montree returned to the Toyota Fortuner, took his colleague's gun from the dead body, and used it to shoot the three children, who were inside the vehicle.

He stripped the bodies of the adults of valuable amulets and jewellery and cash.

He was arrested in Isarn today.

Investigating officers checked out the theory that one of the dead policeman's three wives may have been involved, then followed a second theory that the massacre may have been connected with his old friend, Lieutenant Montree.

Lieutenant Montree rejected an invitation to undertake a reenactment at the scene of yesterday's massacre.

Where does a policeman get 1 million Baht to lend someone? Also driving a Fortuner? I wonder if anyone knows the word AUDIT in Thailand.

Three wives? We really haven't a clue, do we, as to the real Thai culture.

Three wifes is considered not completely normal but certainly not strange either...

Depends a little bit what religion he believes in too, of course.

When the police also start to kill people because she "cut him off", then we have a real big problem going on....

The problem gets even bigger when police help their police buddies to get out on bail for murder cases.

In a culture obsessed with money, power, face, macho-identity and "Lakorns" (soap-operas) the following happens:

Truth becomes fiction when the fiction's true; real becomes not-real when the unreal's real.

I'll happily operate whatever mechanism is used to hang, shoot or lethally inject this piece of human garbage.

What really puzzles me is that you regularly hear about people who are granted bail in cases of first-degree murder. That's just plain nuts!
