Fleshpot Patong: Where the wicked meet the sinful on Phuket

Phuket Tourists, Children 'Forced to Watch Patong Sex Show'

Tuesday, October 18, 2011
PHUKET: A Chinese tourist has accused a tour company of coercing a group of visitors, including children, to go to a live sex show on Phuket.

The tourist was so concerned that on returning home to China, he telephoned a Phuket newspaper journalist to report what had happened on his recent visit.

When told of the man's complaint, Patong councillor Weerawit Kruesombut said today that he would investigate the matter.

Chinese tourism is likely to grow rapidly on Phuket - but a report that children as young as 10 have been forced to watch a sex show in Patong will not encourage families to visit.

Group leaders on some tours from China have an invidious reputation for forcing their customers to make stops at souvenir shops, but the man's new claim takes tour intimidation to a new level.

The man was not coy in his description to the Phuket journalist.

''The man said his tour group were forced to watch a f---ing show in Soi Bangla,'' the journalist told Phuketwan this afternoon.

''He said there were children among the group and that they sat through the show.''

It's known that sex shows have never been more obvious in Patong, Phuket's lively west coast nightlife capital.

Go-go and pole dancers now invite stares in open bars at street level and touts hand out fliers for ''free'' sex shows where the compulsory first drink costs 500 baht.

The man who contacted the journalist said that his tour guide insisted on everyone in the group paying 2500 baht to go to a sex show - and then made them all sign disclaimers saying that they went to the show of their own volition.

The man's accusation is likely to cause shock waves not just in the China tour business, but also in Patong, where many businesspeople dislike the increasing sleaziness.

Others say that pornography is universal. As Phuketwan has reported, these days the retail elements are also growing in number, making for an arm-wrestle in the old Soi Bangla between Soi Blingla and Soi Bonkla.

While there are more sex shows than ever, Councillor Weerawit said today that he believed the live sex that was once a feature of Patong shows had disappeared.

Any night in Patong, steady streams of tourists can be noted going to an upstairs show in Soi Bangla after touts tell them they will see ping-pong balls fired by a woman.

Councillor Weerawit said he believed that the sex show operators turn away Thais and only let in overseas tourists.

the usual reply from thai leadership. when will just one of them take responsibility for just one problem in phuket?

of course there are no sex shows on or near soi bangla. The Chinese man is just making up a story. i am sure!

Wow, that is quite shocking. Many tourists are scared and confused, which is why they signed the waiver form.

The other group members need to come forward and also they need to name the venue they went to, so it should be publicly shunned.

That is low. I really don't have any problems with sex shows. If the adults want to play then fine. But leave the kids alone.

These Chinese tourists must be IDIOTS.
How can an adult with children be forced to go too a sex show and hand over 2500 bht plus sign a disclamer as well ??
Sounds more too me like a made up story to explain to said chinese guy's WIFE why he went to a sex show...

It's a great idea! Glad to see the Chinese are progressive thinkers when it comes to teaching their kids about the facts of life!

What's a little sex show to a few Chinese? After all, they'll walk past a toddler lying in the road after being run over.

Ah, Mediawatcher. Trust you to take one incident and apply it to a whole nation. And so you build your pathetic edifice of prejudice and hate. Of course, it would never happen where you come from . . .

Same stories,continue ....endless...

Ah editor, we can always trust you to take one comment and apply to a reader's entire moral code.
And actually - no, I don't believe any one in my home country would walk past a toddler lying in the road. Maybe in your country, though.

Ah, the racists are coming out of the woodwork.

Editor, I recommend an author to you named Malcolm Gladwell, please read him as it may well show your precepts need updating bit. People do behave according to their heritage, and a Chinese moral code is do not get involved. This has leaked down through many other Asian nations, too- like Thailand. Sorry, but PC parroted scriptures and name calling hold little weight in any argument, anymore.

Phuket is a pretty big place, so avoiding the small Soi Bangla at night time, should be pretty easy.

"Forced to watch a f---ing show in Soi Bangla" - never heard of such a show in Soi Bangla. The go-go bars certainly don't display them and they would never led children in anyhow.

If it's a sex show why take kids there in the first place, every one knows what soi Bangla is, but I have never seen someone having sex at one of the shows.

Fed up expat !!!!!!

Instead of taking away sunbeds and umbrellas from the beach, take away all the prostitution and sex related dirty businesses from Patong, Bangla Rd.Prostitution and sexshows should be bannes and as I know, it is not allowed at all. Gouvenor, wake up and take a look for yourself, undercover, then you will see how bad Soi Bangla is.
I walked beach rd. one evening and 9 men asked if I wanted to buy drugs, absolutely TERRIBLE. Where is the Paradise island gone???????
Where is the Police????
Where is the Army????? I think the money income for this sex related things gives Patong BIG money in the pocket to officials....thats why it escaletes more and more, SEX, SEX, SEX.
