PHUKET: Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket chief Chanchai Duangjit said today that he has abandoned a quest for increasing Phuket's tourist numbers and is now concentrating on quality.
The hunt for Susie Q and her husband Sam will begin with lures being offered for honeymooning couples, golfers and sailors, he told a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall in Phuket City today.
''Phuket is not going to lose the budget tourists,'' he said.
''They are now coming in increasing numbers. But we will be attempting to add more four-star and five-star visitors as well.''
Resort occupancy rates reflected the continuing rise in Phuket's visitor numbers with figures varying between 45 percent and 70 percent occupancy, he said.
Chinese numbers had soared with the possibility there could be as many as one million visitors from China to Phuket this year.
Meanwhile, the TAT has structured a ''Fly Me to the South'' campaign targetting Thais that is operating with Thai Airways, Nok Air and AirAsia.

Dear TAT,
If you dont sort out the scams, the tuk tuks, the jet skies, the infrastructure, the pollution, safety etc this quest will end very quickly.
Sort the place out - the quality will come.
