PHUKET: A Chinese woman who narrowly escaped drowning in a snorkelling mishap off Phuket is recovering and should be able to fly home soon.
Jin Giuping, 29, has been transferred out of the intensive care unit at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City where she spent several days in a coma.
Jin Giuping was plucked from Racha island, south of Phuket, by a Royal Navy helicopter earlier this month in a timely rescue - the helipad had only been opened the previous day.
Her husband, Zhen Shuguang, alerted others on the snorkelling day trip when he saw his wife, wearing a lifejacket, lying still in the water, face down.
It was the second day of the couple's short Phuket holiday.
Jin Giuping, now in a private room at the hospital, should be able to fly home from Phuket in about a week, hospital nurses indicated yesterday.

Glad the tourist is getting better and well done to the Thai Navy for the rescue, some good news all round.
One thing I would say is I very much doubt that it is a life jacket and more likely a buoyancy aid. I know its a bit geeky but big difference between the two. However the name Life Jacket has become the norm such as hoover rather than vacuum cleaner.
Geek bit over. Good work Phuketwan love the work.
Peace and love to all.
