PHUKET: An important Phuket meeting for resort managers to discuss Phuket tourists' safety has been moved back a week to introduce Phuket's new Tourism Authority of Thailand Director.
Chanchai Dungjid, currently executive director of the American region, arrives on August 15 to replace Phuket director Bangornrat Shinaprayoon.
The important meeting was scheduled for August 10 but will now be moved back one week so Khun Chanchai can be introduced and briefed on a key part of his work.
The Thai Hotels Association has called the meeting to discuss Phuket tourism safety, but especially to talk of ways the resorts can help police by extending the security camera network widely across Phuket.
Another key topic will be the number of drownings and ways in which lifeguards can be helped by resorts to emphasise warnings, especially after a spate of deaths in May and June this year.
The conference will be held at Phuket Graceland Resort and Spa, on Patong's beachfront.
Khun Bangornrat, in the Phuket role since late 2009, will be taking up a new post in Bangkok.
