''BREAK A LEG'' is the good luck message before actors go on stage. In paragliding, though, there is no such thing as a lucky break, as this paraglider discovered today on Phuket.
From paragliding to paramedics was his sad journey. Up, then down he soared, taking off at first from the hilltop near the landmark Phuket wind turbine south of Nai Harn beach.
About 4.30pm the luckless Thai glider crashed into the base of the hill, rather than landing on the target on Nai Harn beach. Rescuers had a difficult climb down to him, then a long ascent back up with the stretcher.
Some of the best paragliders in the world were in action today, with No 1 and No 2 showing how it's done, swirling and diving in the winds and landing right on target.
The Phuket Fun Fly event was swarming with photographers, and it continues on Sunday when winds are favorable.
The paraglider with the broken leg was being taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket City for treatment.

Phuket Music Fest to Rekindle Noise Debate
Ok. Some guy wishes to jump off a cliff in an apparent attempt to end his own life or to experience the greatest orgasmic thrill without involving sex, ever. I have no problem with that but please don't involve our already stretched emergency services when it all turns to sh*t and doesn't go your way. They have enough legitimate accidents to attend to.
Hard to believe this event is backed by local tourism authorities and other local media as a "fun" event.
Could have been worse, maybe flown into the blades of the big fan instead. At least it would only require a shovel, a bucket and a mop to clean it up, no ambulance needed.
