Governor Maitree Inthusud, pursuing Phuket progress a little faster now

Phuket Governor Adds Weekly Update to Problem-Solving Strategy

Tuesday, October 16, 2012
PHUKET: An innovative strategy to solve Phuket's problems faster was launched today by new Phuket Governor Maitree Inthusud with his first ''Tuesday morning session.''

The governor wants all Phuket's key authorities to join the 90-minute meetings each Tuesday so that regular updates can be given about the ills that assail the island.

Positive news is expected to be disseminated as well.

His predecessor as Phuket Governor, Tri Adaradecha, took a step-by-step approach that has seen the national government become more involved where necessary.

Governor Maitree has been quick to make his own mark after just a week in the job.

''We need close cooperation and action to work on Phuket's main projects,'' Governor Maitree told Phuketwan.

Issues related to tourism and public transport are expected to be given priority at the Tuesday morning sessions.

The national government under Yingluck Shinawatra has been much speedier than previous governments in acting on the advice of ambassadors who in turn have been appraised about Phuket's problems by the island's honorary consuls.

Governor Maitree's common-sense approach has already resulted in changes to the Phuket Province's online web site, phuket.go.th

Daily summaries about what the governor is doing and an infusion of relevant world and national events - similar in some respects to Phuketwan's own PhuketWATCH daily update - are expected to make all local officials better informed.
