Marc Lucien Forestier: he blames a friend for telling him about frauds

Phuket Fraudster Frenchman Fined and Flying

Monday, April 15, 2013
PHUKET: A Frenchman accused of attempted fraud will be deported on a flight off Phuket tomorrow, Phuket police said today.

Marc Lucien Forestier had earlier been fined 3000 baht by Phuket Provincial Court, said Lieutenant Chanarong Prakonger, of Karon Police Station.

''He told us that a friend in France advised him that it was easy to pretend you had been robbed in Thailand and to get away with it,'' Lieutenant Chanarong said.

Mr Forestier had been on Phuket with his wife. He also told police that he feared his wife's reaction if she discovered he had overspent on Phuket.

On Friday, he went to the Karon Police Station, on Phuket's west holiday coast, and told officers that earlier in the day he had made an ATM withdrawal, near the Karon roundabout.

The 20,000 baht in cash had been stolen soon after by two bag-snatchers who escaped on a motorcycle, he claimed.

Police investigated but could find no witnesses to the snatch. Security camera footage also failed to support the Frenchman's account.

He confessed to telling lies and printed a signed note spelling out what he had done:

I am sick of these people who come to Thailand on holiday and think that Thai Police are stupid. Personally I think the fine should have been based on his earnings (if he can afford to come from France to Thailand) and should have been much more. 4000B is not such a large amount of money for a tourist.

The fine was 3000 baht, Chirpy Farang, as the article says. I don't know where you got your wrong information.

Some people step in merd and come out smelling of roses, he should have been given a month to help deter others from this form of fraud that ultimately ends up costing us all in insurance fees.
