Chief Commissioner General Adul Saengsingkaew takes a salute

Be Honest, Just and Kind, Police Told

Saturday, August 10, 2013
PHUKET: Police on Phuket must be strong and honest and provide justice for everyone, Thailand's top cop, Chief Commissioner General Adul Saengsingkaew, told 500 officers on the island today.

He was speaking at a formal welcome ceremony at Phuket Police Headquarters in Phuket City,

The general's first visit to Phuket coincides with the launch of two Crime Crisis Centres and the beginning of a campaign to end scams, rip-offs and extortion of tourists.

Judging from the full title - the Integrated Operational Centre for Prevention and Suppressing Organised Crime - investigators have much more in mind.

General Adul told Phuket's police today that they needed to be ''people-centred.''

Officers need to be able to adapt to take care of people speedily and efficiently. Among the skills they needed were ''good judgement and kindness,'' he said.

''Phuket police must control crime, they must make residents and tourists more confident in trusting police.''

In a day of dramatic developments yesterday:

..Two Crime Crime centres were opened on Phuket and the message to Phuket residents, tourists and expats was: ''Just walk in, either at the airport or at Phuket City Police Station.''

..DSI Chief Major General Tharit Pengprasert listed 11 Phuket and individuals he said were already the target of investigations. Included were Patong Mayor Pian Keesin and his son, Prab Keesin.

..Prab Keesin hit back last night by inferring that the ''mafia'' on Phuket was more likely to be found among 14 government organisations that allegedly take bribes.

..AoT Chairman Siaw Thiwari said all taxi and limousine contracts would expire at the end of August and a Bangkok-style pickup system would then be introduced at Phuket International Airport.

..All of Phuket's 186 taxi queues are to be inspected and illegal taxi drivers will be arrested. That process began yesterday.

..Governor Maitree Intrusud is today among lecturers at a seminar for Phuket taxi drivers, implementing new standards of behavior.

..Twenty-three illegal taxi drivers were arrested at Phuket International Airport yesterday and more arrests are expected.

.. Chief Commissioner Adul toured the Soi Bangla walking street in Patong last night to reinforce the message.

We have all been doubting thomases in the past but this looks more than just window dressing this time, but lets imagine if they were really serious and the article read this" Illegal taxi cab driver arrested at airport the veh was then taken to the Phuket car crusher and turned into a 2 ft x 2 ft cube
(the illegal cab problem would be eridicated in weeks) Ed any chance of of phuketwan witnessing and reporting on a illegal cabbie arrest just to make sure its true.
