Phuket's new Provincial Hall, with a helicopter pad for 450 million baht

New Phuket Provincial Hall, With Chopper Top

Friday, June 22, 2012
UPDATE

THE NEW provincial hall was discussed again on October 11 with no date set yet for final approval or construction.

Original Report

PHUKET: This is the design for Phuket's new Provincial Hall with its helicopter pad on top, to be built on four rai opposite the Governor's Mansion in Phuket City as soon as funding of 450 million baht is available.

The project won the approval of Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her Cabinet when they met on Phuket earlier this year.

Vice Governor Jamleran Tipayapongtada told a meeting at the ageing, falling-apart Provincial Hall in Phuket City that the budget is likely to be approved in October.

It's a six-storey construction with hints of Phuket's Sino-Portuguese heritage, and an underground car park.

Space for everything would make it a better home than the current historical Provincial Hall, which has grace and charm but not enough room.

All the key departments that are currently scattered around Phuket City could congregate in the new Provincial Hall. There is no word on who gets to ride in the helicopter.
