PHUKET: The landmark Malaiwana hillside development on Phuket's west coast is not under investigation, the project's managing director, Stephen Paine, said today.
His clarifying comment came as investigators moved to widen the probe to include a group of buildings approved by a local council at Phuket's Nai Yang beach.
Earlier, Mr Paine spoke out to explain that the Thai company listed by investigators probing parkland encroachment on Phuket as being associated with Malaiwana had no connection with the development.
He was referring to the recent listing on Phuketwan of 12 projects under scrutiny that included ''Suree Samrit Co. Ltd (Malaiwana).''
''This may lead your readers to believe that the award-winning Malaiwana development (which includes the Estate Villas and Residences) is under investigation,'' Mr Paine said today.
''For the record, Suree Samrit Co., Ltd is not connected in any way whatsoever with the Malaiwana development and I can confirm that our land is not under investigation.''
Malaiwana is a highly-regarded private villa estate overlooking secluded Nai Thon Beach.
The clarification will be passed on to the teams from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and other bodies probing the 12 developments with 12 separate investigation teams.
The investigation into alleged encroachment of land bordering Phuket's Sirinath National Park is likely to grow more serious next week when allegations of intimidation and a warning shot being fired into the air will be taken to police.
The head of one of the 12 teams of investigators repeated to Phuketwan this evening his comment that he had been subjected to a threatening telephone call.
And on Wednesday, Chawang Audomrat, a resident of Nai Yang, approached the Director General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Damrong ''The Demolisher'' Pidech.
Khun Chawang told Khun Damrong that a man had fired a gun into the air in a direct threat when he questioned the legitimacy of a row of buildings erected recently on the Nai Yang foreshore.
Khun Damrong said he would look at widening the probe to take in the legitimacy of the Nai Yang buildings.
The head of one of the investigating team also said he would complain to police about the alleged threatening behavior next week.
Khun Damrong has extended the deadline for completion of the 12 inverstigations to September 25.

It will be interesting to see who replaces Khun Damrong when he retires at the end of the month. We've already seen one corruption fighter Pol.Col.Dussadee 'promoted.' Like Damrong's job, I can only imagine how many are lobbying for these positions given the potential graft on offer.
