TEN-year-old Phuket surfer Annissa Flynn is taking her ambitions to crest a few waves to Bali and an important international boardriding competition.
Annissa met Phuket Governor Wichai Praisa-nob yesterday to tell him about her coming surf trip to Bali and sponsorship by international surf clothing company, Roxy.
Phuketwan saw Annissa catch a wave at the recent Kalim titles and joined in the applause as she demonstrated surfing skills beyond her years.
Annissa, who placed in the Wahine (ladies) division as well as in the Grom (kids) division in the June Monsoon Riders competition at Kalim, on Patong Bay, has received sponsorship from Quiksilver's Roxy clothing line for girls.
Quiksilver's Jake Patterson officially invited Annissa to compete in the Quiksilver King of The Groms surfing competition at Kuta Beach, Bali, from July 8-July 13.
Her sponsorship includes clothes, international attention and experience, as well as an opportunity to represent Thailand on the global stage.
''Phuket Boardriders Club, is really proud to see Annissa have such a great and deserving opportunity,'' a spokesperson said.
Quiksilver hopes to ''Motivate the Thai youth to participate at the beach - keeping them off the streets.''
Two more Phuket boardriding competitions are scheduled for August and September, as well as the Surf Lifesaving Carnival at Patong from July 11-12.
