PHUKET: Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission today opted 7-0 to suggest the impeachment of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra over her decision-making in the rice subsidy scheme.
The verdict means she faces a vote by the Senate that could lead to impeachment and end her political career for five years.
The NACC found grounds for charges of dereliction of duty in her role as chair of the National Rice Policy Committee, spokesman Vicha Mahakhun said.
Critics say the scheme was riddled with corruption and wasted billions of dollars. A flagship policy of Yingluck's administration, the state promised to pay farmers way above market prices for their rice.
The case will now proceed to the Senate, where Yingluck will face an impeachment vote.
Thursday's decision came one day after the Constitutional Court ousted Yingluck and nine Cabinet members for abuse of power.

A judicial coup which will fare no better than Thaksin's ousting.
