PHUKET: Thailand's Cabinet may consider extending all one-year work permits but two-year permits were already in place in some industries, a Phuket Labor Office spokesperson said today.
The government is reported to be considering asking Cabinet to extend all one-year work permits to two years to encourage foreign investment.
''Resorts pay taxes every two years so they already operate on two-year work permits,'' the officials said on Phuket. ''Most resort workers are already on two-year work permits.''
Tour businesses already operated on two-year work permits and so did companies with Board of Investment backing.
Thailand's Cabinet is expected to consider making two-year work permits universal as early as tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.

Consider it for tomorrow?
How mysterious some things move quick and others take forever.
But then again, money was mentioned in this proposal.

It's not that preparation hasn't been done on the issue, it's just that it's been kept quiet until now.
