The aftermath of last night's unusual Phuket motorcycle crash

Wrong Way Brits Crash Motorcycle Through Entrance of Phuket House

Wednesday, December 23, 2015
PHUKET: A British couple are being treated at a Phuket hospital after making a u-turn on a motorcycle and crashing through the open door of a house.

The pair were on their way over Patong Hill to the west coast about 7.30pm last night when the rider, a British man, wrongly took a right hand turn at the Caltex intersection.

Heading towards Loch Palm instead of Patong, the rider quickly realised his mistake and attempted to make a u-turn.

However the motorcycle accelerated and the couple crashed into the open doorway of a house.

The woman complained of a sore head and the rider, who was wearing a helmet, suffered grazes.

Both were admitted to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City. It's not clear what experience the rider had had with motorcycles.

Phuket is probably not the best place to attempt to master your motorcycle riding skills.

Just driven from rawai to patong and so many tourists on bikes obviously with no experience

The people that rent the bikes must be made to enforce the no license no rent to help save life's and injuries

It gets confusing when the pillion tells you to turn left right here or right back there.

@Michael I have a dream so agree with your sentiments they also break the law by asking for passports as collateral this can set you up for a possible scam as its a huge bargaining chip to stand over you for if you foolishly hand it over, when one discovers the massive overcharge for a brief tuk tuk ride its off to the scooter shop where they decide to learn to ride one on Phuket massive mistake! the tuk tuks have a monopoly forcing people to take the one next cheap option scooters ,the road toll here is dismal, hospitals busy with road accident victims, sooner they have a practical viable transport system the better.to then same ol problem which they don't seem to have the political acremen to change as the baht and corruption rules beyond road safety.( Ed what did happen to the white buses the transport savior of Phuket all that fanfare then nothing just another great white hope?)

You can rent a scooter for 150 baht a day which is cheaper than one tuk tuk ride. If staying in Patong and wanting to visit Surin beach, a tuk tuk wants 700 baht or more one way, so it's a 1500 baht round trip. Add in umbrella and mat rental, drinks and food and it is a very expensive day out. Transport options for getting from beach to beach are non-existent and there is nothing at night except gouging tuk tuks. Then there are the exorbitant prices for drinks at bars. Nothing has changed in in terms of providing transport between beaches. It's a joke.
