A NORWEGIAN woman tourist has been found dead in mysterious circumstances at a Phuket beach.
The body of the 65-year-old woman was found about 1pm on Sunday at Ao Yon beach, a secluded strip of sand on Cape Panwa, on Phuket's east coast.
She had arrived with her husband by air on Sunday morning.
A house they were renting was about 400 metres from where her body was found on the beach.
The woman, named only as ''Mrs Jorunn,'' was wearing a white bikini top and a sarong. She was still wearing a ring and jewellry.
It is believed her husband had stayed in the house, while she went to the beach.
Sailors on a yacht noticed the woman was not moving as the tide came up to reach her. Her husband was notified.
Photographs in the Thai media show him on the beach as police examine her body.
A spokesperson at the Norwegian embassy said that embassy staff were aware of the case but it was not considered in the best interests of Norwegian citizens to disclose more information.
The woman's body has been taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket City.
