The bus from Phuket on its side after a fatal crash in Krabi last night

Woman Killed, Six Hurt Badly as Bus from Phuket Slides off Road and Flips in Krabi

Saturday, May 16, 2015
PHUKET: A woman travelling home from Phuket was killed late last night when a scheduled bus ran off the road and flipped over in the neighboring province of Krabi.

Mareena Samaae, 26, died at the scene of the crash at Petchakasem, near Ao Luek, about 10.45pm, said local police officer Captain Prasarn Kongkaew.

''Twenty-five of the 50 people on board were taken for treatment at hospital,'' Captain Prasarn said. ''Six were admitted with serious injuries.''

Khun Mareena was a nurse who lived in Narathiwat, where the bus was heading.

The bus belonged to Phuket-based Sritrang bus company. The driver told police it was raining heavily at the time he lost control and slid off the road surface.

'The driver told police it was raining heavily at the time he lost control and slid off the road surface.' Yet again driving too fast for the conditions- fortunate he didn't run away. Another needless loss of life in the name of careless driving.

@Mister Ree

Unless you have evidential proof that the bus was speeding - your comment is potentially libellous

It may well be he was speeding, it may well have been faulty brakes, he may have hit a patch of spilled diesel on the road, he may just be a rubbish and unskilled driver - but you don't know which it was.

Blaming speeding for all road accidents just shows your ignorance. The German autobahns for example are some of the safest roads in the world even on the de restricted parts due to good driving and roadcraff. Speed does not kill - bad driving kills.

Considering he stated to the police what Mister Ree quoted it would seem to be an accurate conclusion. Otherwise he would have said to the police, I am a rubbish and unskilled driver, or the brakes failed, or I hit a patch of diesel, lost control and slid off the road surface.
In any case the only person libel is the driver unless Mister Ree was walking down the road when his shoes failed, or he slipped on a patch of diesel, or is just an unskilled walker and slipped out in front of the vehicle causing it to swerve off the road.

Part of bad driving is driving too fast for the prevailing conditions. I travel the length & breadth of Thailand & it is the same all over. No thought for farther than the next 100 meters ahead at any time - if that!

MisterRee quoted but the driver said then went in to state he was driving too fast for the conditions - which is an assumption which may or may not be correct

We don't know which

To make an assumption that speed was the only factor is incorrect. He may not have known he skidded on some diesel - he may have been driving slowly but hit some standing water and aquaplaned. There are a hundred different possibilities.

No one should make assumptions until the situation has been investigated properly.

Discover Thainess,
If the driver admitted he lost control and slid off the road surface its fairly safe to assume this is an admission that he was driving too fast for the conditions unless of course driving too slow would have the same result.
I believe there is a saying "it was a black dog" which provides an answer to the cause other than the obvious.
