PHUKET: A buffalo named Tin, heavily pregnant, escaped death today again when rescuers freed her from a disused Phuket well.
The five hours in which she kept her head above the water with difficulty marked another lucky break.
Store owner Patsanat Pitdu, 42, took pity on Tin a few months ago when he saw her at a Phuket slaughterhouse, in the queue to die.
He paid 50,000 baht to rescue the animal . . . Tin's first escape.
Today about 5am she stumbled in the dark into the disused well in the field off Phra Phuket Keaw Road, which runs between Phuket City and Patong, and struggled to save herself.
Khun Patsanat called on the Kusoldharm Foundation to help save Tin. It took a little longer than they had planned.
The usual belt-under-belly treatment could not be applied because Tin was pregnant.
So an excavator was called in, a pathway was dug to the well and eventually, Tin the buffalo staggered out.

Occasionally humanity shows its positive side - I wish it were more often.
