PHUKET: The family of a 12-year-old girl dragged to her death under a truck is seeking 1.5 million baht in compensation, Phuket police said today.
The driver of an articulated vehicle, Sonthaya Junda, 30, surrendered at Tachatchai Police Station after the truck was traced to a Chalong business.
He said he heard a noise as the truck turned a sharp curve heading south from Tachatchai checkpoint early on July 31.
But he told police that he did not realise until later that it was the impact with a motorcycle, not just a pothole in the road.
Lattaporn Kamkaew was dragged hundreds of metres to her death while her mother, Wassana, 40, chased the truck calling for the driver to stop before collapsing from her own injuries.
Khun Sonthaya has been charged with leaving the scene and with driving without care. He is free without bail and not seen as a flight risk.
Meanwhile, the trucking company is seeking to negotiate with an insurance company in an effort to have the 1.5 million baht the family wants in compensation to be covered by an insurance contract.
