Thailand Targets Rebuilding Tourism Confidence After Erawan Shrine Bomb

BANGKOK: The National Council for Peace and Order would like to update the public on the incident at Ratchaprasong Intersection. There has been constant progress with regards to the investigation.

On 4 September, the Security Task Force has submitted Mr. Adem Karadak, the suspect apprehended at Poonanan Apartment in Nong Chok district to the police to proceed with legal procedures.

Meenburi Provincial Court has approved the first detention request of Mr.Karadak for the period of 12 days. As for Mr.Yusufu who was apprehended in Srakaew province, he is to be submitted to the police once his initial detention time has lapsed for further investigation in accordance with relevant legal proceedings.

Testimonies of Mr. Karadak, Mr.Yusufu as well as other witnesses have been useful leading the investigation to a network of Thais and foreigners involved in the incidents at Ratchaprasong and Sathorn Pier.

The Royal Thai Police has continuously publicised some details of the development through the media from time to time.

With respect to the work undertaken by the Security Task Force to ensure safe and secure environment for tourists, the overall situation has returned to normalcy both in Bangkok and in other provinces frequented by tourists.

Daily lives have resumed. Foreign tourists especially those with tour companies have continued to travel as planned.

Assistance for the Injured and Families of the Deceased

As of today, those injured in the Ratchaprasong incident, and families of the deceased, have received a total of ten million seven hundred and eighty thousand (10,780,000) Baht in compensation, from various government agencies, foundations, and organisations. At present, 23 people remain admitted for treatment in 11 different hospitals.

Public Cooperation

The work carried out by government officials, together with the cooperation received from the public, has resulted in the situation being resolved quickly, and everything has returned to normalcy. The legal investigation has progressed significantly. However, we are entering the tourism high-season period, therefore, we would like to request cooperation from the public and business owners to welcome, facilitate, and look after tourists the best you can, as has always been done. This will help build confidence that Thailand is still a captivating tourist destination.
