Sweeping Changes as Eight Phuket Police Station Superintendents Are Replaced

Tuesday, January 13, 2015
PHUKET: Eight of Phuket's 10 police stations will have new superintendents within 48 hours in the most sweeping changes at the top of the island's police force in recent memory.

Greater enforcement of all laws is expected to be the result. Only two Phuket stations - Kamala and Tachatchai - retain their present superintendents.

Three new deputy commanders are also arriving at Phuket City Police headquarters to back up Major General Pachara Boonyasit, who arrived on Phuket in October last year.

The sweeping changes were approved on January 9 by Region 8 chiefs and made public today. New superintendents are due to be in place on Thursday.

With one exception, they all come from off the popular holiday island.

Two positions at Chalong and Cherng Talay were already vacant.

Staying on Phuket but in a new position is:

Sweeping changes?

Maybe with faces, but, there have been many police transfers over the years and nothing of substance has ever changed due to them.

Most people look forward, Sir Burr. Change is inevitable.

What hierarchal system does the police force use that requires a large number of colonels? Isn't it a military title?

I am sorry ED- change is always inevitable just like Death.
Doesn't mean its going to be good for the island.

Until one person actually stands up to the powers that control Phuket, very little will ever change, until old age hits them.

I remember not so long ago, 95% of us were happy that the Military took command. 8 months on... Well its changed back to being how it was.

So it did change, and it changed again, and changed once more, but to what ends? Who has benefited from anything?
Not the people who deserve it, but still the ruling powers that be.

What a joke. This is like taking the worst apples out of 10 bushells, then redistributing the same bad apples into different bushells, then thinking ..."Wow... we finally got rid of THAT bad apple". Ridiculous.

Unfortunately, if you want to know the future here in Phuket, most times you just need to look back, not forwards.

Sad, but true.....

Sir Burr is quite correct, you only have to look back at articles on PW from 2009, 2010 etc to see that nothing has changed for the better. Things have changed - many times - and it's getting worse for sure.

That's a matter of opinion. When it comes to glass half full and glass half empty, Sir Burr doesn't see any water at all. I'm sad for you both.

Ed,
The glass is always full. It's just the air to water ratio that has to be worked out......
